Typically, for a webfarm, we configure the machineKey in the root web.config (or machine.config) for all servers in the farm. Unless it's been blocked, developers could also do that per app in their web.config. Since your load balancer is sending traffic from
the same client to the same server, my guess is that you might be seeing a different issue - like session state being stored in-proc and the process recycling or something like that. Check that your AppPool's aren't recycling.
